Golden autumn: apple, pear, carrot and raisins purée

Golden delight purée

We’ve been spending a lot of time outside lately. Marko has just discovered how fun the swing can be, so I try to take him to park everyday for a little fun in the sun. But yesterday, something felt a little different.

The park was kid-less. Summer is officially over and all the neighbourhood kids are back to school. The leaves are slowly starting to change colours, bringing beautiful shades of yellow and orange to the trees surrounding us. By golly, it’s September!

With the start of fall come the thought of apples, pumpkins and delicious warm spices. So when I woke up this morning, I opened the fridge and let the colours of yesterday inspire Marko’s meal for today.

Try this purée, warm or cold, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg and watch your little babe savour it with delight. I know Marko did, so this recipe is a keeper!


1 golden delicious apple, quartered
1 pear (I used Anjou pear), quartered
1 tbsp of golden dried raisins
1 small carrot, grated
Pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon

  1. Place apples, pears and raisins in a steamer basket and let steam until fruits pierce easily with a fork.
  2. Place warm ingredients in a food processor and purée until desired consistency.
  3. Add grated carrots and nutmeg or cinnamon and stir.

Refrigerate for 3 days or freeze for 3 months.
